The backing sheet trick (free, works with any paper)
You don’t always want to wait on an order of premium paper before you can sit down and color. You want to color now, with whatever’s already loaded in the printer.
If you’re printing on standard printer paper, which is thin by design, alcohol-based markers will bleed through it. They’re built to glide and saturate fast, and thin paper fibers can’t hold that much liquid.
The fix costs nothing and takes five seconds: slide a “backing sheet” behind the page before you start. A couple of sheets of scrap paper, an old folder, or even the back of a cereal box all work. It catches whatever ink travels through, so your desk stays clean and the page underneath stays untouched.

Upgrading your paper when you want to
Since you’re printing at home, you can also just buy whichever paper suits your tool and run it through your own printer.
If you’re chasing a solid alcohol-marker finish, look for smooth cardstock or “marker paper” in the 150 to 250gsm range. Pencil users have it easier: regular paper works fine, but reach for textured paper with some “tooth” on Shadow Guide pages. The texture grabs pencil pigment for a smoother fill over the pre-drawn shading, and mixed media paper or light drawing paper both do the job.
